River Wye – Red Rail Fishery

Description

The Red Rail Fishery on the River Wye is the latest water we have acquired in our vast portfolio. It lies just outside the small village of Hoarwithy near Hereford, and provides around 500 metres of prime coarse fishing on the River Wye. Due to the short length of the beat, coarse fishing only is permitted on the stretch, with a 4 rods per day maximum capacity.

The footpath to the river is accessed from the gateway just after the layby by Pear Tree Cottage, through a public right of way to the top of the beat, or across a privately owned field to the lower section of the beat. Laybys at the top and bottom of the beat can be used for parking (please see map).

The beat is the right-hand bank facing downstream and starts directly below the campsite field and ends where the bottom layby is for parking, just above Valentine cottage (see map for details). Besides the opportunity to catch barbel, the beat holds an excellent head of pike, chub, dace and roach.

It is necessary to book in advance to fish the Red Rail online via our online booking system.

Location & Parking

This fishery is situated just outside the village of Hoarwithy. The designated parking is the two laybys alongside the main road and entrance for members is through a kissing gate near Pear Tree Cottage (see map). Please ensure you leave the main road unblocked and park as close as possible to the verge in the laybys.

Please be aware that the landowner of the field outside Valentine cottage does have sheep which are kept in the field we have access across, so anglers please be careful when walking down to and from the river.
