No coarse fish to be removed from the waters.

Trout

  • Artificial fly or earthworms are the only baits allowed. When worm fishing the maximum breaking strain of line to be used is 4lb (with no more than one size #10 hook).

Fish Limit

  • 4 trout per rod, per day, however, the Association encourages the practice of catch & release.
  • Size limit – 10″/25.4cms from tip of snout to tip of tail

Fishing Restrictions

  • New signs have been erected on our waters. In order to assist members, some have arrows on them. These indicate which way the angler should go to fish the Association’s waters. Plain signs mean the angler can fish above or below.

Beat System

Catch Report for 2015 Catch Return 2015

The Usk waters are split into beats. Members salmon fishing must not fish in front of another member on the beat. They can however fish the beat above or next beat down. It is courtesy when salmon fishing, particularly if you are being followed down a beat, to move one pace per cast. Any member infringing this rule will be severely dealt with.

Kemeys Fishery

With the trout and salmon season opening on Thursday, anglers are requested to take care when walking down to and from the river, John the farmer has installed Solar Panels near the farm and works traffic can be expected at any time.

This fishery is situated above Usk town and access to it is from the B4598 between Abergavenny and Usk, signposted ‘Kemeys Commander ¼ mile’. A tarmac lane leads to Lower House Farm and parking is only allowed in the lay-by on the road leading to the farm. No vehicle is allowed to park past the notice at the end of the lay-by.

The public right of way to the river gives access to the beat, which is 1,070 yards long and is the left hand bank facing downstream. At the junction of the public right of way on the river, the angler has fishing for two fields upriver, and one and a half fields downriver to the large clump of willows at the end of the walkway.

One of the reasons we retain the booking system is that we are being increasingly asked to supply data on the use of our waters. Some of this data could be valuable in making claims for pollution, etc.

This beat is for members and paying guests only. The availability to take a Guest will be decided when a request is made. Members can also take paying Guests on the Mardy. Should you wish to take a guest, please contact one of the booking contacts detailed above.

Please note: Over the years we have had complaints from the syndicate on the other bank regarding alleged intrusion onto their fishing. If you are accused or challenged on any aspect please contact a member of the Committee as soon as you can.

This water is situated adjacent to the poultry processing plant at Abergavenny. Access to the factory car park is only from the roundabout along the A465 towards Merthyr Tydfil. You keep bearing left and turn into the employee’s car park opposite the security office, where you must report before fishing.

You may be expected to produce you license as the ground belongs to the factory and security may approach you on the riverbank.

The access route to the river is shown on the map. Once on the riverbank you can move up or downstream.

After fishing you must leave the factory premises by the exit on the A4042, which will take you back the roundabout or to Pontypool.

One of the reasons we retain the booking system is that we are being increasingly asked to supply data on the use of our waters. Some of this data could be valuable in making claims for pollution, etc.
