In contras
t to Top Pond Middle pond usually carries a
significant colour arising from the activi
ty
of a large head of quality fish. In addition to the existing stock of carp to
18lb plus, there are Bream to over 10lb, roach to 2lb plus, plenty of Tench to
4lb together with some big chub and 14000 coarse fish were transferred into the
lake when the nearby Pond Mawr was emptied of water last year.
At present there is little or no weed in this pond, which varies in depth from 2ft to 7ft and can cater for up to 25 anglers.
As on Top pond hair rigged boilies will pick out the bigger
carp but these will be caught just as easily on any method, be it pole, waggler,
or any type of feeder and any bait, such as maggot
y,
caster, worm or sweet corn. On the sloping stone banks try fishing corn on the
shelf at the bottom of the slope for quality tench and fishing maggot on a
shallow waggler will always produce a good mix of species. Perch and Gudgeon
will always respond to red maggot fished close in on the shallower grass sloping
bank.
Two very large floating islands have been made for this pond, the association will be putting cages under the water with the islands on top to act as fish hides and protection against cormorants.
This water is only available to full members of the Association.
August 2004
The pond is fishing well for coarse fish and carp. Good bags of gudgeon, roach, and perch are a regular occurrence. The carp are also being caught with weights up to 18lbs. Anthony Bentley landed Tench, Roach, 3 Mirror carp, 2 Common Carp and a 5½lb Bream for a total weight of 86lb 4oz.
March 2005
A small working party from the association have erected a disabled gate to stop horses accessing the gabion baskets, yet still allowing access for the disabled.
This water will be closed on the 18th June 2005 to allow a local community event to take place, with fishing competitions, casting demonstrations and competitions, fly tying and other attractions.
