In 2001 I received an e-mail from Robert Thompson who lives in Alberta Canada introducing himself to me. Robert and his wife Gaynor are both from Merthyr Tydfil and Robert was an ex-member of Merthyr Tydfil Angling Association. Robert is a fishing and hunting guide in Alberta and he offered the Association the trip of a lifetime. He offered 8 days of fishing and sightseeing around the Rockies for 2 lucky anglers. I passed the email onto the committee of the Association and they spent many hours trying to find a fair way of offering this wonderful gift to the membership. Eventually it was decided that everyone over the age of 18 who was a member of the association during 2002 would have their name entered into a draw. The committee also decided two things, firstly that they would pay the airfares for the 2 lucky members, and also that the draw would take place on the evening of the presentation night in February 2003. In case members would be unable to take up the offer 20 names would be drawn and each of the 20 would be asked if they could go until 2 members were selected. Every members name was put into the draw and for fairness all the names were audited. So I could only get my name in once not 3000 times! Eventually two members were selected and the pictures of the trip which was taken in October 2003 are below. There is also a video of the trip which will be shown at the Presentation night in February 2004.
