Coarse Fishing in the Classroom

MTAA January 21st, 2010

Starting on February 1st at 7pm, members will have the opportunity to take part in our new Coarse Fishing Tuition nights which will take place on the top floor of Merthyr Tydfil’s Ex-Club.

If you need advice on setting up rigs, how to tie certain knots, hair-rigs, how to elasticate a pole, just pop along. The evenings will include essential skills, methods, and techniques and the range which will be covered over the course of the next few weeks will be extensive. If you have anything you would specifically like us to cover throughout the course of the classes, just let us know beforehand. Please note, there may be charges for certain information due to the cost of setting up/using the equipment/consumables (e.g. elasticating a pole, etc).

If you have any queries regarding this event, or would like to send us a question ready for the first class, please feel free to contact Bernard Farr on 01685 385 940 or, alternatively, contact the Association via the Contact Us page.

Pontsticill and Dolygaer Reservoirs

These reservoirs are almost the only fisheries not frozen over due to the recent cold weather we have experienced, but despite this harsh weather and hard fishing, there are anglers still keen to get out there.

Meldwin Williams fished Pontsticill on Saturday 2nd January and landed two pike on ledgered sprats, the largest weighing around 8lb.

River Taff

Permits are still available for those members wishing to fish the Glamorgan Anglers Club stretches of the Taff for coarse fish. This offers extra fishing for those after coarse fish, and also those wishing to fly fish for grayling.

For more information on these permits please contact our Treasurer, Tony Rees, on 01685 723 520.

Newsletter

The MTAA Newsletter will be due out over the next couple of weeks and will see news, fishing reports, work party reports, and the highlights from 2009. Stay tuned!

If any member would like to come along, the classes are held in the top room of the Merthyr Tydfil Ex-Servicemen’s Club every Monday evening at 7pm. All are welcome and there will be expert tuition available from our Trout Competition Secretary, Gavin Jehu.
