Merry Christmas

On behalf of the Committee I would like to wish all members the sincerest merry Christmas, and the happiest of new years.

As previously mentioned, the latest MTAA Newsletter is currently being finalised and, after printing, should be distributed to all members within the first two weeks of January 2010.

Welsh National Fly Fishing Team

MTAA December 22nd, 2009

Two places are currently available for the Welsh National Fly Fishing Team, a trial for which will be held in early January 2010. Individuals skilled enough to gain entry into the team will represent Wales in the world championships held in Poland next year.

Weekly News

MTAA December 15th, 2009

Pontsticill and Dolygaer Reservoirs

Adam Bowton and Liam French fished Pontsticill for pike on Tuesday 8th December at Cwm Car Bay; Adam landed one pike weighing 7lb on a ledgered mackerel and Liam landed two fish weighing around 6lb and 8lb on ledgered sprats.

Cyfarthfa Lake

Clive Griffiths fished the lake on Thursday 10th December; he used a ground bait feeder and maggot fished on 3lb line and a size 18 hook to land a good carp of 8lb and around 10lb of roach and bream.

Penywern Ponds

Andrew Jones fished middle pond on Monday 14th of December and landed three carp on ledgered boilies, the largest weighing around 10lb.

River Taff

Permits are available for members wishing to fish the Glamorgan Anglers Club stretches of the Taff using either coarse or fly methods. For more information please contact our Treasurer, Tony Rees, on 01685 723 520.

Fly Tying Classes

If anyone would like to join in on the weekly fly tying classes, all are welcome. The classes are held in the top room of the Merthyr Tydfil Ex-Servicemen’s Club every Monday evening at 7pm. All are welcome and there will be expert tuition available from Gavin Jehu. See Events Calendar for more information.

Sustainability Committee Inquiry (03/12/2009)

The latest evidence session took place on Thursday 3rd December and, this time, saw the Sports Council for Wales presenting their evidence.

Weekly News

MTAA December 1st, 2009

Pontsticill and Dolygaer Reservoirs

Ashley Evans and Liam Jones fished Dolygaer for pike on Monday 30th November. Ashley used mackerel cut in half to land two pike weighing around 8lb and 10lb, while Liam landed three pike using ledgered sprats, the largest weighing approximately 10lbs.

Penywern Ponds

The middle pond has been fishing slow recently despite the amount of fish stocked into it. Simon Jones fished last Saturday and landed two good carp weighing 12lb and 14lb 9oz on boilies, his first fish from the pond in three visits.

River Taff
