Pontsticill and Dolygaer Reservoirs
Jamie Price and Kevin Davies fished Pontsticill last Thursday for pike. Jamie landed a good fish of 17lb 3oz on float fished Herring, while Kevin, had two good fish of 13lb 2oz and 14lb 5oz on ledgered mackerel.
Steven Williams landed one fish last week on ledgered mackerel on the boat house side.
Cyfarthfa Lake
Daniel Lewis landed a mixed bag of fish on Monday and catching mostly roach on a float fished maggot. He later changed to a ground feeder and pellet hook bait and landed a common carp of 14lb 9oz. David Lee landed two mirror carp on Sunday: one 12lb and one 13lb on ledgered boillies.
River Fishing
The river Taff is starting to pick up now after the cold weather. John Taylor fly fished the river at Abercanid on Sunday and landed seven fish using nymph patterns.
John Coombs and Dillwyn Sims fished the river Usk on the Mardy stretch last Friday. Dillwyn had one fish using a bug pattern and John landed two using a waterhen bloa.
Competitions
The Welsh Salmon and Trout Angling Association (WSTAA) held their annual junior fly dressing championship at the Rhayader Leisure Centre on Sunday the 1st March 2009.
One of the team, Phil Jehu, has represented Wales before. We are now blessed with a new Champion, Thomas Jehu (Phil’s younger brother) who won the Tiemco Youth National Fly Tying Trophy. To do this he was required to tie three flies – Mallard & Claret, Silver Invicta, and a Fan Wing Mayfly. His mayfly also won the best tied fly winning him the Terry Fenton Memorial Trophy. Terry was a well known angler from Cardiff.
Merthyr Tydfil Angling Association fished a match at Cyfarthfa park on Sunday 15th March, First place was Stewart Wilkins on peg #15 with one carp of 9lb 9oz caught on a ground bait feeder and pellet. Second was Dai Thomas with 2lb 10oz, and third was Ian Cathrew with 5oz.
Rod Licenses
All members are reminded to renew their current rod licenses as the 2008/09 rod licenses will expire on 31st March 2009.
