MTAA October 30th, 2009

Homes were evacuated earlier this evening after the explosion occurred near Cardiff Road, Abercanaid, in Merthyr Tydfil.

Investigations into the cause of the explosion are still underway, and fire crews are still working to close down the 30′ high flames.

There are no reports of any injuries and it is not thought that properties have been damaged, however, burning debris has been reported mid-river. Temporary shelter has been set up in the church hall.

River Taff Oil Spill

MTAA September 1st, 2009

On Friday 21st August 2009 a member reported to the Association at 7:45pm that he had seen an oil slick on the river at the Old Lines Bridge. As it was going dark the Association were unable to find the source and by the following morning only a small slick was left in a backwater below Lines bridge.

We were unable to justify calling the EA out as it was not possible to find the source. We would urge all members to report all such incidents as soon as seen. Any time lapse means that evidence will be lost.

We wish to thank the member for reporting this issue and we will keep an eye on the area over the next few weeks.
