Fly Casting Workshop (05/08/2010)

MTAA August 3rd, 2010

Spaces for this Thursday’s fly casting workshop (5th August) are still available but you will need to book in beforehand. Whether you are a beginner and would like to go through the basics, an improver and would just like to iron out the odd fault, or if you would like to improve your distance casts or learn more advanced techniques such as speys, etc, all are very welcome.

Remember, all attendees MUST bring a cap, glasses and appropriate clothing for the weather conditions on the day. Feel free to bring your own fly fishing gear as this is what you’ll be using when you’re out fishing. If you don’t own a fly fishing outfit, not to worry, spares will be available during the evening.

To book yourself a space, please contact Gareth Lewis on 07540 813 399. The workshop will begin at 7:00pm at the playing fields adjacent to The Grove, Aberfan, off Aberfan Road.

Please note: all attendees must be over 4’6″ in height and any member wishing to attend who is under the age of 18 years old is required to have a parent/guardian present OR must complete a Guardian Release Form (to be submitted to a coach before the workshop begins). Dolygaer Litter Pick

MTAA July 1st, 2010

Due to the increasing levels of litter appearing at the reservoir the Association will be running a litter picking evening at Dolygaer on Monday 5th July at 6:00pm (meeting at the dam).

The Association would like to appeal to all members who would like to show their support to join us at Dolygaer where we will then proceed to run the clean up. Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Previous fishing reports and returns are showing that this is a jewel of a water; lets help clean the surroundings a little too.

Fly Casting Workshop

MTAA July 1st, 2010

The Association will be holding a fly casting workshop at the playing fields adjacent to The Grove, Aberfan (off Aberfan Road) on Thursday 8th July at 7:00pm. If you are an MTAA member and would like to improve your casting skills, get a fault ironed out, or if you are brand new to fly fishing and would like to know where to start, there will be coaches on hand who will be happy to answer any/all queries and to guide you in the right direction.

The evening will begin with an hour or so of grass-based casting tuition followed by a little fishing at the weirs adjacent to the field.

Attendees will be required to bring along a hat/cap and sunglasses in order to protect their eyes whilst casting in the field/river; if you have your own fly rod/reel outfit, please bring them along as it will be useful to practice with your own fishing gear. The coaches will also have a small number of demo rods available to those who are new to fly fishing. Waders would be a big help in the evening, but only if you are planning on joining in with the fishing. If you are planning on joining us for the fishing half of the evening, please remember to be in possession of your MTAA Permit and EA Rod License.

There are a limited number of spaces available for this workshop so please book yourself in as soon as possible. Depending on how popular this event is, future workshops may be arranged.

To book yourself a space on the July 8th workshop or if you have any queries regarding this event, please contact our IT Officer, Gareth Lewis, on 07540 813 399.

Please note: anyone wishing to attend who is under the age of 18 years old will be required to have a parent/guardian present OR you must complete a Guardian Release Form and submit it to a coach on Thursday evening. Download a form via the below Downloads box.
